RESTORING DIGNITY
At MayBell Developments, we use the phrase: “We don’t just build homes– we build up people.”For us, that’s not just a saying. It reflects a vision rooted in hope, healing, and dignity. Imagine a single mother of four. She’s working shift after shift, barely making enough to cover her rising rent, while her apartment continues to…

It was the fall of 2020 when MayBell Developments and Trinity Lutheran Church were introduced by a mutual friend. He noticed MayBell needed a space to call home and Trinity needed a new source of income. Our friend knew both organizations and knew we would work well together. He was right, though I’m not sure he knew just HOW good this match was at the time… Read more

As Christians, we are almost beat over the head with the notion of serving. It is expected that we serve in our home church and that we serve our brothers and sisters in Christ. We constantly hear that we are called to serve, but why are we to serve and how are we to serve well?…Read more

Even in 30 AD during his ministry and 1,992 years ago, Jesus knew that we would never truly solve the issue of poverty. We can interpret this in a way that makes our efforts seem futile and at times we really may be tossing pebbles in a pile attempting to build a mountain. How do we stay motivated as we seek to serve those less fortunate in our communities? Read more

We are in the midst of huge God-sized developments at MayBell. When I was given a vision in October 2015 of reaching the homeless and at-risk through Tiny housing I wasn’t given a price tag or a sack of money to make it happen. Had I seen the price tag at that time I likely would have turned and run. “Nope… No way God… That’s impossible… I have like 5 friends how do you expect me to possibly raise THAT!”… Read more

We live in a world where we are told that we shouldn’t have to sacrifice anything. We deserve the world and more. Western culture instructs us through TV, the internet, and social media that we’d be happier and healthier with more. That acquiring more of what we don’t have is our right as consumers. Sacrifice is seen as unnecessary unless… Read more

How often do you see others judging those they may not even know? Or maybe you find yourself judging others? “Why can’t she just get a job?” ”Why can’t he manage his money?” ”Wow, those kids are so misbehaved – why don’t the parents intervene or discipline?” At the end of these questions is the fleeting, self-righteous thought “like me”… Read more

As we set out on this new beginning of 2025, we like to venture back and reflect on the amazing things that God has done in 2024. Throughout MayBell’s 9 years in existence, we are ever more aware that God does not work on our timeline and that His plans are greater than we ever could have imagined…
“It’s been almost 5 years now since I started volunteering with Maybell Developments. Not only do I have a fuller picture of the issues and challenges [participants] face, I also have names and faces linked to this picture. My compassion quotient has increased, and I sense I’m nearer the side of Christ as I walk with these women.”
“MayBell Development’s vision to work toward ending poverty through faith-based and relational programs really connected with my heart. What a blessing it’s been to be part of the Faith and Finances program and the Knit-a-thon, as well as seeing the exciting progress at Lilium Village!”
“This extraordinary organization is a true testimony that together (with God as our solid rock and foundation) we are much stronger together than we are apart.”
