At MayBell Developments, we use the phrase: “We don’t just build homes– we build up people.”
For us, that’s not just a saying. It reflects a vision rooted in hope, healing, and dignity.
Imagine a single mother of four. She’s working shift after shift, barely making enough to cover her rising rent, while her apartment continues to deteriorate. She’s exhausted. She can’t afford groceries. Every month, she tells herself things will get better. She’s trying everything she can– but survival leaves no room for rest, growth, or joy.
Now, picture her moving into a home with Lilium Village. The space is clean and welcoming. The rent fits her income. There’s childcare next door and a supportive community around her. She’s taking a work readiness program, and feels hopeful about a meaningful job opportunity that will finally meet her family’s needs. For the first time in years, she can breathe– and begin to rebuild.
Informed by the proven approach of the Chalmers Centre, through whom we are certified, we recognize that poverty is not solely material. It stems from brokenness in relationships– with God, with self, with others, and with creation. At MayBell, we see affordable housing as an essential step in mending these fractures. We are not just meeting a physical need but responding to a deeply spiritual one.

Isaiah 58:7 calls us to “share your food with the hungry and provide the poor wanderer with shelter.” But that same passage challenges us to do so in a way that honors the humanity of those we serve. We believe that housing done right is one of the most powerful ways to affirm that every person is made in the image of God.
In a previous blog post, we spoke about dwelling– not just as a physical place, but as a posture of the heart. To ‘dwell’ means more than to reside somewhere; it means to remain, to abide, to be present. For the families who move into Lilium Village, that’s exactly what we hope these homes will become– a place where they can truly dwell in safety and comfort.
Each home we provide is prayed over, built with intention, and placed within a supportive community. Our residents are not recipients of charity; they are valued friends on a journey towards restoration and reconciliation. We walk alongside them, offering life-skills coaching, spiritual mentorship, and access to faith-rooted community programs that affirm their God-given potential.
Where we dwell– sometimes by choice, sometimes by circumstance– shapes who we become. When a family finds a safe, stable home, they begin to dwell not in fear, but in possibility.
Your support makes that possible. It doesn’t just fund housing– it helps restore dignity, rebuild hope, and remind every resident that they are deeply cared for and never alone.
